ERASMUS+ Romani Digital Knowledge Area project of HUN-REN NYTK has successfully concluded
The “Romani Digital Knowledge Area: Innovative Romani-Hungarian digital educational-cultural competence development and producing side material package applying regional models” project, led by Csilla Bartha, a scientific advisor of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Centre for Linguistics (HUN-REN NYTK), concluded successfully. The researchers aimed at developing high-quality, linguistically and professionally credible digital content, innovative online resources and tools, as well as the necessary methodological and digital pedagogical competencies for Roma communities. Co-financed by the European Union's Erasmus+ program, the project was implemented from March 2021 to August 2023 through an international strategic partnership and concluded with a multiplier event organised on 30 August 2023 at the Romano Kher Budapest Roma Cultural Centre.
The event was organised around the interactive presentation of the four main intellectual products developed within the project: the Romani-Hungarian digital children's dictionary, the Romani digital storybook, the Romani digital platform, task and method repository, and non-digital learning support tools. These developments reduce or bridge the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the education of Roma children. Through their application, children can access new opportunities and positive experiences provided by digital education for the first time. Thanks to this, the well-designed innovative digital content, aids, and tools can become sources of the same benefits for them as for members of the majority society.
At the multiplier event, alongside the implementers and representatives of the partnership, leaders, educators, parents, students, experienced experts, community organizers, and volunteers actively involved in the project from the institutions and communities of the regions engaged by the partnership were also present.
In the project carried out under the consortium leadership of HUN-REN NYTK and professional guidance of the Multilingualism and Educational Linguistics Research Group, the Hungarian Teacher’s Association of Romania and the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Teacher Education of Selye János University in Slovakia also participated.
